From minor league baseball to nearby hoops action, Reno isn't just a gamer's paradise. Sports-lovers from all over will appreciate the area's diverse offerings.
While skiing is still king in this part of the country, other sports events to consider are Lake Tahoe's annual "Best of the Beach" volleyball tournament, one of the last AVP tournaments of the season. Roll on over to the coast to check out some NBA hoops action. The Sacramento Kings play in the Arco Arena. If a drive to the coast is not in your plans, you can catch some minor league basketball in Reno. The NBA D League Reno Bighorns kick off their season in November at the Reno Events Center. Minor and rec. league baseball is here, too, with the Reno Astros, Silver Sox and the Reno Adult Baseball League.
And of course there's golf. Reno is home to the PGA Tour's Reno-Tahoe Open (held in August) and the Century Celebrity Classic in July. When you're done with organized sports, head outside for some world-class hiking, mountain biking, fishing and kayaking. Then there is the annual Reno rodeo. This rodeo, a Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association-sanctioned event, offers the fourth-richest purse on the tour.
